In my case, it's probably something about old dogs and new tricks.
I've flown fixed wing R/C since 1962. I started out with a used, ten
channel reed radio, and a lot of enthusiasm.
Over the years I have flown, designed, competed and enjoyed just about
every type of radio control model except for helicopters.  Since I've
been a professional photographer and video producer since 1970, it was
probably inevitable that I would get the bug to shoot still photos and
videos from an R/C helicopter.

I taught myself the basics on a computer simulator, and managed to get
through the actual flight training process (on my own...) fairly
unscathed (except for the total demise of a baby peach tree... for
which I am still apologizing to my wife.)  But I knew that something
was missing, and that was some in-depth help with the fine points of
helicopter set-up.... particularly as it relates to smooth, vibration
free flying for aerial photography.

I found the AirworksRC website, and decided to invest in my skill
set.  I knew that I was going to be in Southern California on magazine
business, so I contacted Eric and arranged to spend a day with him.
He brought an amazing assortment of equipment, including two
helicopters, two camera mounts, and a case full of camera and downlink
equipment.  We spent a couple of hours going through my Maxi-Joker
helicopter, and Eric offered a wealth of tips and suggestions to
improve its performance, including the calibration of my Helicommand
HC3A stabilizer unit.  Then I spent most of an hour on the buddy cord
of Eric's AirStar Mongoose.  As Eric joked with another client later,
"We spent some time smoothing out Taylor's helicopter, and then we
spent some time smoothing out Taylor!"

I can't say enough good things about the experience.  Eric understood
exactly what my needs were, and brought the equipment and experience
to provide exactly what I needed.
It was a pleasure to work and learn with him.  Professionalism like
this is hard to find.

Eric, Feel free to use this reference... without you I would still think that Helis are to hard to fly...

With the boom of RC helicopters, I started with a dual blade E-Flight heli.  I asked the hobby store about progressing, in particular to a camera mounted heli, and there response was... the T-Rex 450 is the best and that will set you back $1,000+.

After meeting Eric from a referral, I was flying his large Bergen Gasser heli on the cord, all bet not very well   After a few lessons, I got the nack and a few months later I have a Raptor 50 and Raptor 60 that I solo with

Now, I won't say that I am a good flyer, but with the basic skills taught by Eric and now the fine tuning that he helps with, I am flying and have not crashed either heli (yet).  I fly in an exterior parking stall, just to practice close quarters, with no fear... cause I fly with my hands and not my eyes...

I highly recomend the short track to learning that was provided with Eric's help and knowledge.  Now I look forward to stability so I can add a video camera and not get dizzy watching the resulting footage.

That is music to my heart.  Nothing gives me a greater since of pride than to hear from a student of mine about their success. Especially when the light just goes on all of a sudden.   In one moment all the words and theory just seems to click and start making since.  That's great though all in one session and a short casual just happen to be there at the filed session on the way home.  I only wish I could have saved you the struggle you had to endure for the short time before I got to work with you.  But now the sun is shinning.

Subject: Hello Eric
21 June/ 2006

   Hello Eric,

I would like to take this opportunity to write to you this thank you letter regarding all of your help.

Flying Helicopters Eric had always been a dream of mine, but because of financial difficulties I wasn't able to pursue that dream, so I figured that if I wasn't going to fly the real thing that I would try flying the r/c versions. Because I live in a small community where no-one had ever flown r/c helicopters I again found myself in a position where I believed that again that dream too was quickly coming to an end, that was until I heard about you, the arrangements to have you come to Canada then began, before too long there you were arriving in Wawa Ontario ready to share the wealth of information and knowledge with me. While you were here you showed me the basics of flying and you also showed me both the radio and Helicopter set up. Now because of your pure determination and patience along with long hours I am able to take my Raptor 30 v2 and fly it on my own, coming from a person who before you arrived had never flown an r/c helicopter really means alot.

Eric, what I am trying to say to you is Thank you very much, because you took me along with you and made me who I am now a much more confident flyer.

Eric thank you so much for all of what you have showed me, you can believe that I will be recommending you to all of my future helicopter friends.

You never know maybe one day I can look back and I too can help someone else and be able to put a big smile on his face just like you did for me again thank you very much.

Hi Levi, It was a pleasure working in Canada with all of you guys.  I really am happy to hear all of you have really been doing well over the last month without any losses.  I will be completing the follow up informational DVD shortly on our sessions, but it doesn't seem like any of you are forgetting anything I taught you. I do want to make sure there are no details lost over that long winters break though.  Again it was my pleasure to work with such a great group of guys there in Wawa.

Thank You, Eric Pacheco
