RC Helicopter Training

Learn how to fly radio controlled helicopters in a relaxed and personal atmosphere.  We offer the most comprehensive basic training available for radio controlled aircraft.

Our course follows a step-by-step method that has been refined and proven over several years to be thorough and specifically directed to your learning needs. If you’re just starting out or simply having difficulty fine-tuning the basic components of your flight, we can help.

Our flight trainer, Eric Pacheco, has been flying r/c helicopters for over nine years and has been teaching other people how to fly for seven years now. Eric is an award-winning pilot with experience in several forms of contest flying. He has performed for audiences at the Naval Weapon Training Center in Point Magu, the Camarillo Air Show, and the Santa Ynez Air Show. Eric is certified by the American Model Association (AMA) as a flight instructor.  He also holds one of three positions in California for the Altech/MRC Hirobo USA pilot-representative program.

Often, new pilots don’t recognize that their helicopters have not been built or set-up properly. This makes them more difficult to fly than they should be.  Eric is an expert at troubleshooting problems you may be having because of the way your helicopter has been configured.  He has built and repaired hundreds of micro/mid electric, glow-fuel, and gas-powered radio control helicopters.  He has even produced several instructional DVDs available at HeliHobby.com that describe the set up and operation of various helicopters.

Training consists of personal instruction to help the new or intermediate pilot understand the basic components of flight maneuvers and the mechanical operations of the helicopter and how they directly relate to each other.  We will analyze the performance of not only the helicopter but the pilot as well. Our aim is to synchronize both units to make one team. Each helicopter is configured differently to match the needs of the pilot, and the configuration of the helicopter will change as the pilot becomes more experienced and demanding.  During the course of training, the student will learn how to synchronize the performance of the helicopter with his or her own performance and reactions.

The course plan includes a module overview, step by step maneuver component processing, visual/physical aids, transmitter-to-transmitter linked practical flight, and detailed hands on set up of both the helicopter and transmitter unit. All of these procedures are used to teach a step-by-step process for correctly setting up, flying, and operating in a safety aware environment. This step-by-step method is not only an efficient way to cover our course plan, but it has also been created to develop a student’s thinking process, which is vital for long-term success and safety.

There are two very unique techniques utilized exclusively by our service.  One of these techniques is comfort grip mechanical feedback.  This is a method of enhanced learning equaled by no other.  Most students have been found to excel at an average of 50% faster than without this component of our program. Some of our most needy students have found that this method has accelerated their learning process at an even higher rate.  Our other technique is the visual point reference system. This technique employs unique mechanical/visual feedback of information usually never analyzed or obtained before.  This tool has been most helpful to our pilots who have needed that extra piece of help that has been evading them.  Results of this technique have been proven through students’ demonstration of substantially improved display of fluidity of operation and precise control of aircraft. Most students walk away from this with nothing less than astonishment.  Results produce untapped power and performance not seen from many pilots with years of experience.
